Most business owners and managers operate their businesses without ever knowing what their company is worth, what factors affect the company's equity value, and how much of a range there can be in value.
This session will discuss the methods to value a business, the qualitative and quantitative factors that impact value, a method unique to valuing very small business, and a case study demonstration of how key assumptions can have a significant impact on valuation results.

Mr. Mellen has 27 years of experience across a wide range of industries providing valuation services in support of tax planning and compliance, strategic planning, financing, mergers and acquisitions, fairness opinions, post-acquisition purchase price allocation, financial reporting, estate planning, exit planning, buy-sell agreements, marital dissolution, shareholder disputes, and appraisal review. Mr. Mellen is co-author of the book Valuation for M&A: Building Value in Private Companies. He has also authored several published articles on valuation-related matters, led over 100 seminars, and provided expert testimony in court. He is an active member of the AITF, chairman of continuing education and instructor for the International Association of Consultants (IACVA), Valuators and Analysts and is on the editorial board for Business Appraisal Practice.
Prior to joining Valuation Research Corporation, Mr. Mellen was the president and founder of Delphi Valuation Advisors for 15 years. He has also held senior level positions in the valuation departments of two major accounting firms - CBIZ Tofias and KPMG.
Mr. Mellen holds a master of business administration degree in finance from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts and a bachelor of arts degree in industrial relations and economics from McGill University in Montreal. He holds the industry designations of ASA, MCBA, CVA, ICVS, ABAR and CM&AA.
