What To Do (And NOT Do) When Your Client Dies
A client dies and their financial advisor flies into action to help the surviving spouse or kids claim policies, retitle accounts and “tidy” everything up. Does this look familiar?
The best help is to advise the client to call an estate administration attorney and not move any assets. As a coordinated advisor team, we can work more effectively together. Estate administration is usually not urgent and benefits from a deliberate review and strategy.
Let us help you!
Learn about the complexities of estate administration which spans probate, trust, real estate and tax law. We will identify all the moving pieces and explain how waiting to claim, retitle or distribute accounts can benefit the family and save money. Learn how to support the estate administration process as part of the advisor team and add credibility to the client relationship. This can be an opportunity to grow the client relationship to extend to other family members as assets are distributed or held in trust for their benefit.
