Signing testamentMarket Watch recently stepped up with great advice for its readers. Their tips are threefold:

  1. Create an estate plan.
  2. Do it now.
  3. Find a great attorney to help you.

Those first two come down to your own initiative — all they require is that you pick up a phone. But, to borrow a phrase from Ray Parker, Jr., “who you gonna call?”

Here’s Market Watch’s best advice for finding the right Massachusetts estate planning lawyer:

  • Ask around. Talk to your friends. If you have any professional advisors, you might talk with them about their experiences (or their clients’ experiences) with attorneys in the past.
  • Run a Google search. Market Watch recommends a search phrase with your town included in it. For example: “Middlesex County estate planning attorney.” Stick to the first page or two of results, being careful to weed out any non-local offices or “factory firms” that can’t provide you with individualized attention.
  • Explore the website. Digital signs of a good law firm include: an active and personable blog, testimonials, individual attorney profiles, local contact information, and detailed practice area webpages. Look for lawyers with real experience and a sense of knowledge and compassion.
  • Check Avvo. Avvo is a lawyer rating service that helps clients learn more about law firms before hiring them. A strong Avvo rating, bolstered by good reviews, is a strong indicator of a law firm’s trustworthiness.

Of course, we’re a little biased, but allow us to humbly suggest that our own firm might be just the one you’re looking for.

We’re proud to meet each of Market Watch’s criteria, passing every test with flying colors. You’ll usually find us on the first page of your Google search, we make testimonials and attorney profiles available on our website, our five-star Avvo rating is outstanding, and our reputation in the Middlesex County community speaks for itself.

If you need a Massachusetts estate planning lawyer you can count on, consider O’Connell Law LLC. And tell your friends!
