Lynda is Of Counsel to O’Connell Law and focuses her practice on estate and trust administration, probate and tax.
Lynda enjoys helping families unravel the complexities of how to manage a loved one’s estate, follow the instructions laid out in Wills and Trusts, meet fiduciary responsibilities, and strategize on income tax planning, all while keeping the family peace.
Estate administration is a comprehensive process spanning more than a year and intersects estate, trust, real estate, elder and tax law. Understanding the complexities of all of these areas, Lynda helps clients navigate through these concepts easily and comfortably while staying sensitive to family dynamics. Lynda provides the full range of services to see an estate administration through from start to finish, including preparation of all of the relevant tax returns. This one-stop shop enables families to coordinate all stages of estate administration and strategize for the best tax and legal outcomes over the long run.
Lynda enjoys explaining legal and tax concepts to make sure clients understand their fiduciary responsibilities as Personal Representative and/or Trustee. Ample time spent up front identifying issues and discussing concerns often saves time later on in the process. Clients may choose to handle as much of the legwork as they have appetite for, with Lynda’s coaching, to manage costs, according to each family’s desire.
Lynda fell in love with elder law in 2007 after spending the first part of her career in litigation, mediation and law firm administration. Prior to joining O’Connell Law in 2016, Lynda worked for PYWL, P.C. a Newton elder law firm, where she helped clients achieve their estate planning and funding goals while handling all of the firm’s estate administration and probate matters, including preparation of gift, estate and fiduciary income tax returns. Previously, Lynda worked for other elder law firms in the Metrowest area handling estate and trust administration.
Lynda received her J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1989. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Boston University in 1984. In 2011, Lynda earned her LL.M. in Taxation at Boston University Law School. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
Lynda is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc., Boston Estate Planning Council and the Trusts and Estate Consortium.
Lynda is a contributor to Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education seminars on estate administration.
In her spare time, Lynda enjoys getting her hands in the dirt in her garden, loves to stock her freezer with homemade soup, and will be adjusting to empty nesting and the possibilities of travel and volunteer work now that her son is soon going off to college.
